I know this is a small gauge forum, but a film titled: Samsara, is coming out soon. Shot in 70mm; it should be a treat for the eye's and the senses. I thought I would just give people a heads-up on this. To see a preview, go to barakasamsara.com
I wonder how this will compare to some of my reg. 8mm ...

Re: 10 ASA Standard 8mm - yellow leader or film?
The 10ASA film you have is Kodak's 7363. It has a yellow backing. You're good to go; Load it up and start filming. Brad M

Re: Are there any regular 8mm cameras that run at 70fps?
Greetings Patrick, I appreciate your interest in reg-8; you would make a great convert. When it comes to the spring wound motors, most of these cameras were very well made. I have a number of Bolex models and a Carena, leaving them wound up for a short period of time doesn't seem to bother them in ...

Re: Are there any regular 8mm cameras that run at 70fps?
Isn't 64fps fast enough? When projecting movies such as: Charlie Chaplin, L&H and feature films, Super-8 is the way to go. But when it comes to my own personal filming, reg-8 is my format of choice. You ruffled my feathers when you stated that reg-8 looks OK when the projector is up close and the ...

Re: Can someone teach me a few things about projector lenses
The 15mm lens gives me a bigger picture. I project about 19 feet from my screen; so at that distance, the image is around 6.5 feet wide. With the 20mm lens, the image on the screen is 5.5 feet wide. Of course the 20mm lens gives slightly better contrast and resolution, because you are not blowing up ...

Re: Can someone teach me a few things about projector lenses
If you are projecting Reg-8mm film, I would recomend a Bolex projector with one of their lenses. I like the M8 model, and use either the 15mm or 20mm lens. You should be able to nail one on ebay for about $30.00 or so. The glass supplied with the Bolex machines is a step above what you have now. As ...

Re: 7363 et all
I understand that Andes does a good job of processing 7363. Have you tried any of the labs here in the U.S.? If so, what were the results like? I have had 7363 processed in the States, but the results have not always been consistent. This film stock can be difficult at times. I would like to hear ...

Re: my first shoot with 8mm for a long time
Welcome to the site John. Your scooter idea is an excellent one; I hope you keep us up to date on your progress. You will love Kodak's 100D. With this filmstock, I would strongly recomend a polarizer filter. You are correct in assuming that you will need good natural lighting for your project ...

Re: SUPER 8 PROJECTOR
I have a Bolex SM8 that I like alot. It has a very good zoom lens, and the registration is excellent. The sound is ok, (Mono only) and the projector is fairly quiet when running. The reel capacity is 800ft. This projector was manufactured for Bolex by Silma of Italy.

Re: Talk To Me About Ektachrome 100D
Take the plunge. I have used Kodak's 100D for a couple of years now, although in reg-8 format not super-8. John Schwind of International films is my supply source. John feels that 100D is better in many ways to Kodachrome, and I agree with him.

Re: Bolex P1 maintenance?
Hello Ric, If it is running fine, you shouldn't have to do anything except count your blessings. I am a big fan of the Bolex reg-8 cameras but I have not used the P1 model. Grease is the main culprit, over time it dries out and acts more like an adhesive than a lubricant. If your camera ever starts ...

Re: Light Meter
The Weston does not have a spot meter function, but it does have a "C" marking on the dial that you use for taking a reflective reading off of a persons face. You hold the meter about 6 inches from the subjects face, and set the dial to the C mark. I assume this only works with caucasian people ...

Re: Light Meter
I have used a Gossen Luna Pro for a number of years, and it is a very good istrument. Mine has a spot attachment which I use obout 90% of the time. This allows me to meter an area of 7.5deg, 15 and 30 deg. Recently in International Movie Making, they had an article on the Weston meters. I was so ...

Re: Fuji Velvia 50D
I have shot two rolls of Velvia, and I don't plan on shooting any more. I think you're much better off with Kodak's 100D. In many respects, 100D is better than Kodachrome, and I'm not the only person with that opinion. Wish you the best with your reg-8 filming. Brad M.

Re: Russia in color, a century ago
In the city where I live (Richfield Minnesota) we have a Russian art museum. They had some of these pictures on display. I should say projected images. If I remember correctly, 3 projectors displaying the image in red, green and blue, would be displayed on a single screen--Like Technicolor. When I ...
