Hey Kentbulza, Your friends are right, IA is really recommended, in my books its a must see! There are actually two endings for this movie, if you buy the DVD it might actually have both endings, the one for HK cinematic release and for Mainland China release. (I don't want to ruin it for you so ...

Hero & Infernal Affairs

Seeing that this post is talking about all kinds of things now, we might as well talk a bit about some other stuff too!

Hero:
This is incredible.......... it is truely beautifully shot. You all must see this at the cinema when it is released. Colour plays a big part in this film, just like ITMFL ...

Cameras in China

Hmmm, about cameras in China, I was watching a documentary at the HK Film Festival by a director called Carma Hinton who had lived in China during the cultural revolution. Some of the footage of Chairman Mao showed these guys filming him with what looked like Bolex H16s.........

Then had been ...

I went to the screening

I've been in Sydney for the past 3 weeks working and I just remembered about it this morning, so I decided to go. Just came back from the screening.......... Some interesting (abstract / graphical art) stuff there.

I might try handpainting my films too one day.........

Japan

Hi guys! I wish I asked for those directions here earlier, I just got back from a month of being in Tokyo.......... You guys probably already know that not everyone can speak or want to try speaking English, so if Paul's trick of looking like a tourist doesn't work, just go up to someone and say ...

I got my footage back!

Hey guys I am so stoked. I just got back my timelapse reel and popped it in the projector straight away, was so excited. There is so much usable stuff (well in my view anyway). I feel pretty lucky coz I was basically using an untested camera with my newly made homebrew timelapse device! And it ...

Hey Jessh,

I experienced that phenomenon you described exactly, the thing with the manual exposure / aperture........ it just isn't reliable, it drifts and all the rest. When I bought the camera, it was only for US$18 and all the other functions seemed to check out including auto, so I figured what ...

Lucas,

That camera looks the same as my own one...... I think the manuals on this site should be okay for you to understand the camera. The way that you engage the daylight filter was a bit strange to me, on my other cameras, this is done by flicking a switch, on the 814, the daylight filter is ...

I have been thinking building some kind of stabilizers for some time......... I mean, with the small size of super 8 cameras, alot of hand held footage can turn out a bit shaky. I think if you are gonna make a short film, stabilizers / dollys / mini cranes are essential to get stable and interesting ...

Top

Just topping this thread because I would also like to know the issues. Matt, When you say its not that easy, are you just referring to the fact that it will be hard to get the kind of focal lengths required for typical filming? For example, after reading the focal length comparison thread you ...

My Day

Hey y'all, how was everyone's day? For me luckily the weather reports were wrong, I didn't get any rain at all and the skies were quite clear too. I can't believe myself, I dragged my ass outta bed at 6am (I normally only wake at 9:30am to go to work!) and was running all around until 3pm when I ...

This is not good news for me! I just sent off 2 cartridges late last week. Turnaround time is normally 2 weeks total for me from the time I post it to when I get it back. If the turnaround is markedly longer, I can only assume that there are really problems in Lausanne and the film is being ...

Weather

Damn, according to the weather reports it looks as if I'm in for some rain here on May 17th........... I might have to go for Tri-X just to get an exposure, but it doesn't seem as nice using B&W for timelapse........... Hope I get good weather!

Whats the weather looking like elsewhere?

Hey Sam,

Check these links, they are my faves for id'ing Bolexes.

From my understanding on Bolexes:

The side mount is a parallel viewfinder, with a distance adjustment to correct parallex error when ...
