std 8 services

Hello,

I've recently shot my first few rolls of std8 and really enjoyed it. I processed it at home and it looks lovely but I need to have it split and transferred. Can anyone recommend someone to do this?

Cheers

Cambridge Festival in Newcastle this wekend

Hello,

Just a note to anyone in or near the North East of the UK to say that this weekend we're hosting some folk from the Cambridge Super 8 Festival, who will be showing a best-of programme at the Star and Shadow cinema in Newcastle upon Tyne at 7:30 on Saturday. It should be a great opportunity ...

Re: Ektachrome 64t indoors - A recipe for disaster?

Generally I think 64t is at it's best indoors. You do need loads of light but in general that only improves things. I'd say outdoors it often looks pretty bad. I use a 1014-xls and tend to set the exposure compensation to +1. It's supposed to be the wrong thing to do with reversal but it works for ...

Re: Where do all you UK filmmakers send their super 8mm??

Since 64T I've processed every roll I've shot. It's not as hard as you might think once you have a spiral tank and saves a fortune - although Tetenal, who make the E6 kits, gave their prices a hike a year or so ago. You can come use our darkroom if you want and if you can get to Newcastle upon Tyne ...

Re: Is the end near?

You can always find a way to fund an addiction.
I shoot quite a lot of film, and I'm relatively poor. It's still cheaper than the moderate cigarette habit I used to have.

Damn! I promised myself I'd never post in a "death of film" or "film v. digital" thread.

Re: A Super 8 Filmmaker's Journal

The page doesn't give a very good idea of what's in the book. Does anyone here know what's in it, who it's for?

cheers

Re: ITV Leeds film equipment

I think I'm going to try to make it to the viewing of this auction on Monday, (tomorrow) if anyone is looking out for anything or would chip in shares on something really useful. Let me know. We have a modest, not commercial lab under very slow construction in Newcastle upon Tyne. My address is ...

Re: canon 814 & 1014 repair website

Thanks, I have a 814 which didn't stop once it's going unless you give it a whack on the side, after a while of that it stopped stopping at all. It was my favourite camera - such a great lens. I'm sure it's just a gunky contact and now i'll have the condifence to fix it one rainy day.

cheers

Re: Stop bath - another question for the darkroom guys.

Glad that's cleared up then. I wish I could be so presice somethimes but I'm just too impatient. I always develop too long as well becasue no matter how many times I shoot and do a DIY development i can never quite beleive it's had enough exposure.

Re: Stop bath - another question for the darkroom guys.

I dont know the answer to your question but I don't use a stop bath. In my experience water is just as good, so i don't know how important it is. I can't see the point of an indicator if you have to predict changing the solution before it actually indicates anything, if you see what i mean.
So if I ...

Re: New method of digital storage

I mean separately - so shoot the roll with blue filter, rewind, shoot something else with red, rewind, shoot something else with green. Telecine, then spearate the 3 channels and then make them black and white - so you have effectively got three scenes recorded on one roll of film.

Does it make ...

Re: New method of digital storage

This reminds me of something i think ought to be possible with film:
exposing three times on colour film with Red Green and Blue filters respectively. then printing / scanning with an appropriate light source to give three different and separate monochrome scenes from the same roll. Does that make ...

Re: shooting in dark vision 2 500T any advice

I'm not sure you would need to push the film in this situation. It's often more expensive to do and means you have to do it on the whole roll.
Your light meter is telling you how to expose in order to get an averagely exposed picture. So if you are after quite a dark look so it's sometimes normal ...
