francis, i'm interested in knowing more about that third "worthless" 200ft mag. really only want to study it and document it in CAD. can you tell us more about it?

That is nice. There are already people working on chisseling 50ft standard or sound cartridges. Also a DS8 perforator is still in the ...

aj: You might want to check the pictures of this plattino guy on the webpage.

francis: ok, where is this website with diagrams?

aj: By the way, you have got a nerve ! You are too lazy to answer your PMs or postings and I am supposed to spend many hours for your convenience drawing up a webpage ...

just browsed through the video camera's manual. didn't see any note of accepting an external trigger. i did notice that it has two firewire ports, so it might be able to accept a signal that gets passed through to the capture software. nice little camera. nice manual.

also noticed it indicated you ...

thanks for sharing, Fred. very interesting.

may i ask if you're still using the modified mouse in a feedback loop to trigger frame capture (i assume you are). or are you using the firewire connection to do this now?

yes, you can buy the tools (to be specific, to say "design" is to imply you're only getting a bunch of 2D drawings created in 80's CAD software - or worse, which really isn't what you want).

problem is that steel doesn't just sit around for years. it's a commodity. and it's value has been steadily ...

Why not plastic? The camera does not have to be made totally out of metal, does it? Seagull is a big maker of 35mm still cameras and lenses in china. Thier cost for a typical entry level body is $1 US dollar. I know super 8 cameras are more costly, but that just one example I have specifically ...

can't a camera be designed in the US and then manufactured in a country with low wages? ..... Will it ever be done, becuse it surely can.

biggest issue is capital. cutting steel is cheaper in China, but still expensive. ballpark guess: $50k for tooling alone. add in the rest and i can't see ...

is it possible that we're seeing something new? typically there were two venues: film and tv. and by tv i'm talking standard old resolution. now that hi-def has arrived, tv is splitting in two - the hi-def and the standard. consequently we may have three nodes

cinema - highest quality in whichever ...

Maybe if Kodak could leave rights to the cartridge design to the public. Somebody could have produced somewhere a number of 1000 of cartridges and sell them to the needing. Is this the reason or is just the cost of the moulds prohibitive?

it's really the cost of the molds. injection-molding tools ...
