This idea of "vistavision s8 or 16" is one way to get a 1.85 or wider image. This method will cost alot more in filmstock. The horizontal wide frame will be the size of two or more standard frames. At 24 fps you will use 2 or 3 times as much film.

Camera costs aside, 16mm film and 35mm film cost ...

The Canon DS8 would be the best choice for this type of modification. The lens on the DS8 most likely would not properly cover the entire wide frame. Since the Canon Scoopic 16mm camera and the DS8 are pretty much the same camera, a careful melding of the two seems the best answer. The scoopic lens ...

The ACL is smaller, lighter and easier to handhold than the NPR. The ACL is also a little more quiet. The NPR has the 2 lens turret, a plus for some one with some C mount lenses in the collection. Easily upgradable to Super 16. Video assist avilable too.

There was a camera/magazine of this sort made in the early to mid 70's. It was, I think, a Minolta silent super 8 camera converted to accept a scaled down Mitchell style reloadable 200' mag. It was manufactured by the Wilcam Photo Research Company. It was called the W-1, a single system super 8 ...
