My super 8 camera draws attention at Target
I know this is very random but I can't help but be amused by a little incident that occurred a number of years ago in Adelaide, South Australia. This was when I was shooting super 8 on a regular basis (in the days when Kodachrome 40 was around.) I was browsing the shelves at Target and I had my ...

Re: Good to be back!
I really don't get the appeal of Facebook. Supposedly, Facebook has been the reason behind many online forums becoming less active over the years. As for me, I prefer forums.

Projectors that allow you to remove the gate
With many super 8 projector designs, I believe that you can remove the gate for cleaning and maintenance. Out of curiosity, can the pressure plate be removed too? My projectors are not like that. With mine, the lens swings out to the side to provide access to the gate.

Re: Your Experiences Using Expired B/W Film
I once bought a bunch of old B&W 16mm films from a market stall for about $4 each. Judging by the design of the paper packaging, they looked extremely old but I had no idea how old. Had kind of a vintage design with the style of lettering etc. I exposed them normally and had them processed normally ...

Re: New to Super 8 (Sankyo cm600)
The 200T will probably set to 160ASA and since it's a negative film the slight over exposure shouldn't be too much of a problem.
It wouldn't be a problem at all. Quite the opposite really - it would be beneficial and actually preferred. Film crews who shoot on negative film for movies and ...

Re: 500T in Adelaide city street at night
Overall, I'm happy with the results except for the slightly unsteady picture. I'm not really sure if the fault is with the camera or the transfer. I used a tripod for all filming. Previously, I used the same camera at a wedding and footage from that shoot appeared steadier.

Re: 500T in Adelaide city street at night
I'm generally happy with the depiction of motion in the footage. Looks smooth enough to my eyes in most instances. The very first time I shot sports (skateboarding) in super 8 with my Canon 1014E years ago, I used 18fps which I later regretted. Obviously some blur in moving pictures is good but ...

Re: 500T in Adelaide city street at night
Nice effort Patrick,
Just wondered what speed this was filmed at as some of the movement of people seems a bit fast?
Footage was shot at 24fps and I told Nanolab (who did the processing and transfer) what speed it was shot at. To me, most of the people seem to move at normal speed except for ...

Re: 500T in Adelaide city street at night
Pretty decent for the 1014E. Good camera but not ideal in low light.
I'm guessing you're a fan of the XL cameras? A number of years ago, I filmed some performers in an outdoor stadium at night under artificial lighting with the Canon 1014E and Kodachrome 40. And the results turned out ...

Re: 500T in Adelaide city street at night
To be honest, I'm not sure how much exposure correction (if any) took place in post production because that sort of thing was handled by Nanolab who did the transfer. Prior to filming, I took a light reading but the meter indicated underexposure. So most of the time, I shot with the aperture wide ...

Re: 500T in Adelaide city street at night
Thanks for the good words, Charlie. And it's good that you're going to shoot that 500T! I admit that I drew inspiration myself from city night scenes in movies like Taxi Driver and Midnight Cowboy.

500T in Adelaide city street at night
This footage was shot last year in Hindley Street, Adelaide, South Australia on two different nights. My first time shooting 500T. Film was exposed with a Canon 1014E.

Re: Making money from youtube? Hmmm....
Gosh, things have really changed with regards to youtube's monetisation program. Years ago, you had to be invited to take part in it (like I was with my wolf spider video which gained enough views to be considered.) Then later on, anyone could participate in it, regardless of the number of views ...
