I can arrange to have the following films submitted to this program, both shot entirely on super-8 and finished digitally:

I shot 12 rolls of Quarz rated at ASA50, using a Canon 814e, and it all came out fine. By fine, I mean, like a film from the 1920s.

I overexposed by about a stop, thinking the film had lost sensitivity. I should have exposed normally. Everything came out a tad overexposed, but still looked fine. Of ...

...and let's not forget some super-8 films become pretty famous. Guy Maddin's "Heart of the World", Derek Jarman's "The Last of England", etc. Super-8 films which are well known in thier own circles.

And if you will forgive the footnote, I photographed two super-8 films recently (in Quarz Chrome ...

Though super-8 has a higher theoretical resolution than digital formats like DV, factors such as image stability, optics, film grain, etc, have a counterbalancing effect on perceived image quality.

disjecta's recent DVX100 24p transfer of his own super-8 film looked flicker-free to my eyes.

I will ...

I have it on good authority that the Switar 10mm C-Mount will not cover the S16 frame on a Bolex. Not sure about other cameras (such as a Filmo, etc).

A common wide-angle substitute for S16 coverage is the Peleng 8mm C-Mount, which will definitely cover the S16 frame on a Bolex.

Someone had an ...

Well, I'm impressed. I also happen to be a super-8 shooter who owns a DVX100. I'm going to have a go at this myself when I get the chance.

A place called Blackstone Park, near Wayland Square, and also at Forth Wetherill in Jamestown.

Providence is great if you make modern silent films. Lots of fully-restored Colonial/Victorian/Edwardian locations.

I've been buying black & white reversal super-8 from Pac-Lab in NYC for about 3 years now. It's $22 a roll with processing included, and usually $6 shipping via Airborne. K40 is $26 per roll at Pac-Lab, processing included.

They also processed the Svema (Quarz ...

I attended the Ann Arbor Film Festival for about 3 years in a row. Though *most* entries were "pure" 16mm, super-8 and video entries were also present. Some entries used experimental video processes which were transferred to 16mm for hand-tinting, painting, etc. One feature film looked to be shot ...

I'm not sure if the laws are the same here in the U.S. There is an interesting PDF of photographer's rights in the U.S. here...

$900 seems rather steep -- that's almost the same price they charge for super-16 conversion. From what I've read the procedure merely involves machining the gate .7mm on either side -- they don't have to touch the viewfinder or re-bore the lens fastening screws. The down-side being that unless you ...

I haven't seen Lost in Translation , but I have seen a few films in the theater recently and been brought up short by how unacceptably bad the image looked for my $9. I blame the sharpness and stability of DVD, not my own experiences in filmmaking. The Tom Cruise sci-fi action film Minority Report ...

I've seen professional documentary filmmakers with a DAT/MiniDisc recorder in thier pocket and a mic on the camera, simply hold thier hand up and snap thier fingers on screen.

If you're the one who is going to be editing you don't need to have fancy gadgets -- just a good memory.
