Re: Beaulieu 4008 extension handle

It might be worth a shot to contact Irving about the handle extension, but tread carefully. If he has none available and says "we had trouble with the casting," I wouldn't hold your breath over it.

Re: Super 8 in Paranoid Park, and other Q

Hi David,

From searches I've done of this forum on opinions of the sharpest Super 8 lenses, the Schneider 6-66 and the Angenieux 6-80 are often discussed as the sharpest in the format, and the cameras, if cleaned, lubricated and adjusted properly, are supposedly among the steadiest also, in a ...

Duchess

Yesterday I saw Duchess here in L.A. IMHO this is a big-screen must-see however you must travel to catch it. I was knocked out by it on every level. At the very least it's an amazing example of the use of motion picture film, to risk sounding like a Kodak lobbyist if there is such a thing. Seeing ...

Re: OT: New painting!

Hi Roger,

I wonder if Bart saw the photo of the car you posted awhile back. That's pretty American, too. I think a pattern is emerging! And your Moviestuff site... its directness and openness is very American. An example of America at its best I think.

Re: damaging super8film while projecting to create crazy effects

Thanks for sharing that, it sounds great, similar to Stan Brakhage's "pure cinema," I think he used to call it, for example his work in Mothlight.

Re: damaging super8film while projecting to create crazy effects

When I was in college I once threw a pumpkin off the 13th floor of the dorm onto the tennis court, and I thought that was pretty cool, but I was 17.

Re: Take Up Reels

Momentcatcher is a source, apparently, of 8mm Gepe reels of several sizes. I have about 10,000 feet of super 8 film on 400' Gepe reels. So that's quite a few reels I've dealt with and they're one of those things where the quality is so good that it's just kind of transparent when you're using them ...

Re: super 8 synchronizers

Wade, thanks for your reply -- for me one of the cool things about super 8 is the mystery of 30 year old stuff and the solutions dreamed up to work around the barriers of a tiny medium. A fun "lens" to view human ingenuity. This eBay sync has one further mystery, which is scribed index markers on ...

Re: super 8 synchronizers

Thank you. The outriggers on the HFC sync I just bought have a certain hand-made flavor to them -- the plexiglas is slightly uneven on the edges as if each were made by hand with a band saw and then polished somewhat. Nice how the outrigged roller is attached to the plastic, though. On closer ...

super 8 synchronizers

Anyone know the purpose of the guide roller that seems to be common to all super 8 syncs... both HFC and Magnasync... the roller that's kind of "outboard" to the right, attached to a cutout piece of plexiglas? It's unique to super 8 synchronizers... no other format has it.

Does it have anything to ...

Re: Airport X-Ray Report

Does anyone know what happens to film -- X ray wise -- sent through international mail or Fed X? Does its fate depend on policies of the countries it exits/enters or air carriers or both?

Re: Where to go in San Fancisco and where to buy S8 stuff?

No matter what you do, you're going to have a great time! An awesome place. I'm from there, but live in L.A. now. For books on film try City Lights Booksellers at 261 Columbus Ave., at the corner of Broadway, it's a famous S.F. destination. Amoeba Music is at 1855 Haight Street. Roxie Cinema is in ...

Re: Manual asa rating and filters...

Hi,

Don't know if this'll be any help but I'll give it a shot. I own a Beaulieu, which may have a similar setup to the Leicina. On the Beaulieu, the internal meter has no way of knowing whether or not the internal filter is in place. In other words the meter does not "see" if the filter is in use ...

Re: Wittner V50D first roll - video on vimeo

This is really gorgeous. Skin tones are excellent and makes me hungry for barbeque. Reminds me of the old "United Colors of Benetton" ad campaign where models of different races were grouped together and the colors of the clothing and the people were so vibrant. It actually would be cool to do that ...
