Re: Attempting Home Telecine of Neg Stock, Tips?

hey Tscan

with negative, you can't shoot a white card and white balance the camera, since it will be inverted. you're better off shooting a foot or 2 with the lens cap on to get a some unexposed area (black), which will come out white after processing and you can white balance with. remember to use ...

Re: Attempting Home Telecine of Neg Stock, Tips?

miles

my jaw hit the floor when i saw your "control-option-command-8" trick. i just spent a few hours last night telecining some Super 8 negative of a buddy's wedding from last summer. if i would have known this trick, i definitely could have set up the camera better.

Tscan, my process, before ...

5.9 style lens for Canon 1014/water housing

my 2 favorite lenses from my Arri S and Bolex shooting days were the Angenieux 5.9 and the Kinoptik 5.7. everything's in focus from the lens surface to infinity. great wide angles. with these lenses you can shoot the camera without looking through the viewfinder. i used to work for action sports ...

The BMD Intensity Pro is a great card and a steal. i even color corrected a series for National Geographic on one.

Re: Workprinter XP to Sniper (Kinda)

hey Tom

i have a barebones Workprinter-XP and I've been capturing HD on my Mac with it since i bought it last year. the difference is that i don't have the Velocity box. i still use the modified mouse. i'm not really sure how the Velocity box works. i've been meaning to give Roger a call to get ...

Re: Best widescreen transfer to HD in the US

i have to say that i've never worked with them directly. when i took over film ordering, processing and telecine at Teton Gravity Research 3 years ago, my predecessor told me to avoid Pro8 because of the issues i listed in the earlier post. at the time we were working on TV shows that would have ...

Re: Bolex H16 SBM : How Loud?

oops, forgot to answer your other questions. not having a battery is great. a friend of mine took one to Antarctica so he wouldn't have to deal with cold batteries and it ran like a champ. its also one less thing to carry and if you're trying to get action shots like skateboarding with a Kinoptik 5 ...

Re: Bolex H16 SBM : How Loud?

its a little quieter than an Arri S cause theres no motor. but the internal elements still clack. if you put a barney on it you could maybe get it quiet enough. i've never tried it though - its not crystal-sync anyway.

my Bolex has film in it at the moment, so i can't run it to see how long a crank ...

Re: Best widescreen transfer to HD in the US

i've also used Cinepost in Georgia for Super8. i was really happy with their work, but i moved to Flying Spot to keep all my film in Seattle - Alpha Cine for processing, Modern Digital for 16mm transfers and Flying Spot for Super8. it makes shipping and tracking a little less hectic. but your buddy ...

Re: Best widescreen transfer to HD in the US

Pro8 is really only convenient if you use their film and processing package and do it all at once. if you don't use their film or get you stuff transferred in smaller chucks, it can get complicated. i also believe they do SD only for Super8, but not sure. i have used Flying Spot for my Super8 for ...
