Thanks guys,
Glad you enjoyed it. It was fun to work on the project.
However most of us on this forum are not exactly into scratchy home movie emulations. We are pushing the medium to the best of our experimental abilities. This is not a knock on Spielburg et al but I don't really identify with ...

Re: What's the best thing if I want sound on super 8 and 16m
Very interesting topic. Since our new Scanity 2K/4K film scanner has the audio option I've be researching the very same thing. The audio option allows us to scan 16mm Mag or Optical track while performing 2K or 4K HDR, optically pin-registered film scans.

Re: Super 8mm Film on American Idol
Thanks Andre,
This job was for money not credit so I don't think people would connect the dots back to Cinelicious... however we're just excited that a lot of younger generation kids were introduced to the format. Same thing with the Super 8 movie coming out. It's a good year for small formats ...

Super 8mm Film on American Idol
Super 8mm is being seen by a 26 million viewers tonight in the US on American Idol! I love that the format is getting wide exposure. We (Cinelicious) put together a 4 x Super 8mm camera/film/HD transfer package for the remaining American Idol contestants to document their trips home. If you're eying ...

Re: where is widened super8 gates going?
We have a widened S8mm gate on our Spirit and can transfer widened stocks to 1080p. However most "Max8" that we see is scratched in the area that is supposedly widened leaving us to wonder if it's the camera or the processor.

Re: Potentially Awesome Double8 Pin-Reg 2K Workflow
Thanks for the feedback.
I'm going to pursue getting the Scanity to recognize the 1/2 perf pitch of D8 on 16mm film. Hopefully this won't be too difficult as it should just be inputting new parameters into how the perf camera is interpreting data. Plus now that I've thought about it more it might be ...

Potentially Awesome Double8 Pin-Reg 2K Workflow
So we all know that some of the charm of Super 8mm is the lack of registration. This problem is not only due to the camera systems (lack of pressure plates and plastic cartridges)... but it's also due to the fact that all current Super 8mm film transfer systems are non-pin registered.
Lately I've ...

Re: HD Super 8mm Spirit Transfer - A Clip!
Must be an AAA brand considering the sharpness of the sand and wood structures. I'll check my line-up of cameras this evening. :)
Andre - There are a lot of cameras out there that can resolve grains of sand. And I've seen a lot of SD vs. HD telecine for Super 8mm. The detail you're seeing is the ...

Hey Guys,
Glad you all like it. For this one you're just going to have to appreciate it for what it is... beautifully shot film. Sometimes clients, agencies, or production companies want to keep the details about their productions private.... a right that we as a company totally respect. There's a ...

Re: HD Super 8mm Spirit Transfer - A Clip!
Hi AJ,
Yes it was for a commercial. The amazing thing about film is we can take those images from the 1970s and remaster them using current technology (because film is archival) and it will look better than it was ever seen originally.
The gate is expensive because you're also paying DFT-Film (who ...

The DVNR 2K is a top-of-the-line realtime processing hardware cards made by Digital Vision that sit in a "DVNR" hardware box used that is often utilized in film scanning and telecine. There's a picture of it on our site in the "rad video" clip that you can watch from our home page or you can learn ...

Congrats to both you and your team, Paul!
Do you have a theory why S8 labs cannot or will not control electrostatic buildup on the processed S8 frame? I can still see a few dust particles and hair(?). In Canada we only have one S8 negative lab here in Toronto and both the head and tail of my ...

HD Super 8mm Spirit Transfer - A Clip!
A while back there was a 7 page thread discussing wether it was "worth it" to transfer Super 8mm to HD. Lot's of good technical discussion about pixel resolution etc. People can talk all they want (and I enjoy a good debate) but in the end filmmaking is about creating an image. Here's the first ...

I would hopefully like to end this very long thread with something that will be more convincing that words. May I present the first HD Spirit transfer that we are able to show online "The Journey" featuring Supermodel Elyse Taylor:
