Re: H264 vs DV compression
In my experience, yes... H.264 is a greater degree of compression than DV. For some things such as HD footage with little grain, H.264 works ok... if you don't look too closely at it. For other things, like grainy super8, H.264 is absolute mud.

Re: How to fix perf damage?
You can use the Kodak press-tape splices, but cut off the section that would cover the image. The issue with this is that it may cause the focus to soften a bit where the splices are placed. If you experience soft focus at the repaired section, I'd recommend a separate pass with focus adjusted ...

Braun Nizo Super Wide attachment
Does anyone here have experience with the Braun Nizo Super Wide attachment (http://nizocamera.com/nizo-super-wide-038-fish-eye-lens-p-12.html?currency=GBP)?

Re: BBC HD
First of all... Yes, digital cable signal is terrible. I live in London. We have Virgin broadband. I am thoroughly disappointed with digital cable. I feel we received better signal via analog cable and even terrestrial TV (via antennae) when set-up properly.

Re: Focus goes in and out
It wouldn't have anything to do with the electronics unless the camera were autofocus.
It could be to do with the stock... for instance, if you had stored your film in a refrigerator or freezer and did not allow it to acclimate to room temperature. If the temperature inside the S8 cassette were ...

Hello David. It's ekoehler7 here.
I recently noticed something on a Schneider-Kreuznach 6-70 that may explain what happened. I was using the lens for a test, set it at 10' and started to frame a focus chart... I happened to look at the lens barrel and was suprised to see it rotating on it's own ...

Re: It's all in the lens.
@BK... I've been using c-mount on m4/3 as well (GF-1). Except I've been using Fujinon-TV 1" format lenses which have no vignetting or image 'smear' in the corners (25mm and above). The 16mm cine lenses can be a bit 'swirly' in their bokeh, which can be really cool. The Fuji 1" lenses are more even ...

Great work! I've got to research more into Avisynth.

Re: It's all in the lens.
Wollensak rocks. That one is a little hot in the center of the image. It would be nice to see more demonstration of near focus capability, or of the bokeh characteristics of that particular lens. I wonder what sort of color characteristics it has as well.

Hello David.
