and................

iMovie can be a bit like a woman on rag.

Nuff respect though, when it works, it works, I've just heard and experienced too many heartaches with it. This has never happened with FCP/Studio 8.

Again, I'm not saying its always flaky, it just chooses its moments when it wants too ...

I shoot with mine, and then its straight back in its box.

Other than that, you could try a 10" dinner plate and some gaffer tape

And in answer to your original question, not that I'm aware of.

Bloody hell!!

Someone on here with balanced and open views about video as a medium.

I nearly fell over :)

I like it!

Is it actually a DVD, or is it a DVD disc with video files on it?

I'm confused. I can't understand why anybody would go to the bother of getting a proper telecine and have it transferred to DVD!!?? MPEG2 is notoriously shite for editing and keeping quality.

So if it is a DVD its already mpg ...

Eric,

I'm trying to respect you dude, but you write too much. Most of it is superflous, and doesn't need to be there. Get to the point!

Say what you need to say, like if you only had 30 seconds to do so.

I find your enthusiasm intriguing, but I can't for the life of me ever figure out, what the ...

As for the difference between homebrew dvd and commercial ones, i don't believe it has to do with additional layers.

There is a big difference. A film squeezed into 4.7Gb compared to a film squeezed to 9.4Gb is going to have to have a lower overall VBR, therefore be technically, not as good as ...

Voodoo, Cinewave, Aurora are the products you should be looking at.

No direct experience with either, but I've had them demoed.

Studios use hugely expensive MPEG2 compressors for mastering DVDs. Using highly complex variable bit-rate multipass compression. In fact, they are that good, I think they ...

Scot

Seriously have a look at DVD-LAB by mediachance software.
http://www.mediachance.com

Its cheap (<$100USD) and packed with features. And, oh yeh,....its cheap. I've heard loads say that they prefer it to Encore. The only thing that I can think of that it won't do is create motion menus (which ...

Nice one Scot,

I've been following your progress keenly for a long time now, and must say I'm thoroughly impressed. A true inspiration to indies and small gauge film makers. Well done.

Get one from your local camera store, they do all sorts of rubber screw on ones. I have one, didn't cost much.

If you want to push the boat out, you can get a matte box for the 4080/6080 series which are quite good.

I went for a more expensive matte box from Optex in the UK, made from sturdy stuff ...

Hi,

My reference was the XLS. Yes it was quieter than a lot of cameras, but still unacceptable in my opinion. It wasn't the chainsaw that some are, but still give enough ambient noise in closeup and confined spaces.

Again, from what I've read and footage I've seen, the 1014xls from a point of view ...
