I can't say what Pro8mm is doing, but it would not be too hard to have a supply of new mounts made up by a competent mahine shop. A good machinist could easily replicate the existing mount, but with an offset lens hole.

If I ever go "Super-Duper 8" with my Beaulieu this is what I would do. I'd ...

On the subject of gigapixel images, I was having a conversation with someone the other day who thinks shooting film is a waste of time. He kept talking about how great his digital SLR is and how digital technology has already surpassed photochemistry and bla bla bla. Like most film-bashers, he kept ...

Don't have the Canon, but I do have a lipstick cam that I use with my K-3 and Arri 16S. I had a machinist make up adapters for these. The image is so dark and the resolution so poor that I rarely use it.

For Super 8 work, I sometimes tape the lipstick cam to the top or side of the film camera. You ...

If the camera is on then the meter system should position the aperture.
Yeah, I knew that. I was just wondering if there was a clutch. Thanks.

Really? Where did you find this number? If I can be reasonably certain this is a proven adjustment I can have the mount turned down to these specs. I have a machinist ...

Internal filters and back-focus question

While I was mucking around inside my Beaulieu last night, I noticed the clear gel was missing from the filter holder. I later found it laying in the bottom of the outer shell, but I decided not to put it back in place. I also went ahead and popped out the 85 filter, because I never trust those ...

Beaulieu / Angenieux Question

Finally got my 2008 up and running last night. Had to gut the battery compartment and solder wires directly to the circuit board (long story). Now it purrs like a kitten.

Here's my question:

I have the Angenieux 8-64 lens. In manual mode, when I move the aperture ring, should I hear the gears ...

Beaulieu pin wrench size?

Quick question: I'm looking for the correct size pin wrench to buy to remove the two fasteners on the front of my Beaulieu 2008.

(I'd measure it myself, but I don't have the camera with me right now.)

Thanks for your help!

I am a bit hurt that you don't consider or mention the Tobin Video Transfer TVT-8 machines.

Sorry Clive. I didn't mean to exclude your excellent products from this discussion, and frankly I'm surprised nobody ...

Okay, simmer down, fellas.

We can all agree that technology is constantly changing, which is why only a complete moron would throw away their original film after having it transferred. Twenty years from now I'll probably be able to transfer the same footage again, only at a much higher resolution ...

Yes, my viewpoint is maybe a little radical today.

Well, maybe a little. :D

Obviously there are advantages to digital copies. For one, you don't wear out the film running it through the projector over and over again. And its pretty hard to share clips with friends and family all over ...

unless you want to spend a lot of time learning this kind of stuff anyway, i'd say hire somebody who knows his stuff. the results will be better, you'll have more spare time, and it might be cheaper too.

OK. If all you need to do is to get them digitalised then half of the workload is out of the picture. Putting the project over a long time makes renting a camera a bad alternative...

OK, here is how you do it then: Buy a WP and transfer a reel with your camera. If the quality is OK then that is ...

Try telling that to your father-in-law. :)

No problem. :)

Seriously, maybe he doesen´t understand how much time it takes to do it correctly? Just the pure transferring won´t be done in a full 40 hour working week. Then you need to split the reels to scenes with different need for ...
