Re: Pawn Stars ...pure fantasy?

Actually it's become completely staged.

The guys really did work the counter at one time, but the last few years it's become impossible for them to work there without people snapping pictures.

The laws regulating the pawn business specify that the transactions are supposed to be made with ...

Re: Did you know......

Strange to reminisce about those days: it was the Internet, the Future! How did it become nostalgic?

I'll always be grateful for those days, though. Finding Super-8 alive and well years after I thought it was dead has given me a lot of satisfaction over this decade.

The years I was out of it were ...

Re: X-Rayed Again! Ugg!

My wife's 400ASA print film was scanned on Sakhalin Island by what probably WAS old USSR equipment, besides being scanned once in New York and 3 times in Moscow and it still came out fine.

Same goes for my K-40, but that's not a great example.

Re: DIY Film editing cement = nail polish remover?

...and that $4.95 bottle of cement will last most people several years.

Think of what happens to your film when a splice breaks: the broken end find a corner of whatever machine it's running through and the film bunches up in a bent up little wad, so later you have to snip off whatever is ...

Very Nice!

Kind of Denver and Rio Grande-esque.

-Like one of their narrow gauge 2-8-0s but more standard gauge proportioned.

Re: Fu***ngs jackass who sniped that auction

Online auctions are competitive and predatory. When you place a bid, especially the first one you get the idea that the thing is "yours", and somehow the next guy along has violated your rights when he bids against you. When it gets personal like this you can wind up regretting what you pay when you ...

Re: Is Film "Analog"?

To me "Analog" and "Digital" are words that describe two methods of electronic signal handling, so a piece of film is "Analog" just as much as an oil painting or printed text on a paper. All three carry information, but are not electronic.

I guess you could say film only "became" "analog" when ...

I always assumed they are stainless steel.

You can get inside the machine by removing a couple of screws on the back cover.

This E-bay seller has the right belts:

Re: Take Up Reels

Gepes are my favorites. They are nicely made and I've never seen one with the warpage you often get on other plastic reels or those molding lines that "twang" the film once a revolution.

The neat thing is that the case is actually ventilated on the lid, so even though they are more rugged than a ...

Bolex Beveled Splicer?

Are you sure the blades you have are worn out? My splicer requires about 10 passes of the bevelers before the shearing blades will cut cleanly through what's left of the base. I've been using it for years and this number is consistent, so I don't think wear is a factor.

The ...

Re: Minolta XL 400

These are really useful cameras: small but with a lot of nice features.

I always use them for travel. I was in a hotel in Moscow awake at about 3:00 AM one night. 9 Hours of jet lag does that to you. Simply because I had nothing better to do I propped my Minolta up in the window and set the ...
