I buy a few DVDs but watch movies that I get from Netflix. I like the low cost and simple return method. Netflix would like me to download but that is a PIA to me.
I also like the Netflix database.
The only thing that is attractive in Blu-Ray is its possible use as a backup ...

Re: Super 8mm w/widened gate
ALL STOP on S8L!
Looks like the gate is the first part that was assembled at the factory. The two screws are accessible from the lens side which means everything has to be disassembled.
I think not!

Re: Super 8mm w/widened gate
I guess one should avoid coffee or Red Bull before attempting this operation.
I have a 2nd busted S8L to practice on. It already has the covers off the sides so there is a lot more room to work. Removing the sides is not too difficult: remove the control side first. Be sure to make some sort of ...

That looks great!
How much trouble was it to widen gate? Could you post instructions or PM me on how to do it?
I have a Nizo S8L that I think i want to experiment with.

Battery
Did you change the 2 meter batteries? They are under the handle when it is retracted.
They are 1.2 v dc and were the old Mallory mercury type not available any more. There is a replacement that you can get off of Amazon for $4.50 each.
I can't remember the part number but I have the spec in my ...

Looks good but S L O W
I clicked on Arrested ... I took for ever to get through the buffering load.
As it is only a 100MB film something must be wrong or it is just a slow site.
Not acceptable for a film download.
Site looks very nice and interesting. But I think the left side intro overwhelms the film menu items ...

SATA and Firewire only!
If you are going to buy an external get a SATA. And, while you are at it you may as well get the biggest one available: 750GB or 1 TB.
Or buy the HD and buy a External Firewire case and install it yourself.
The reason for Firewire over USB is that if you are doing a big transfer in real time you ...

New 1080p-commercials
I just got a new 1080p 42" Aquos because my tube Sony died. It is great new technology! That said, I watch almost everything in 720i (or p). The only thing in HD 16:9 format is the commercials. I'm not even going to buy the Dish digital as within a year most of the broadcasters will be HD. And ...

Which movie screen for Super 8
If you were going to project your Super 8 films what movie screen would you buy?
I see a brand "Da-Lite" but it is really pricey. I think they are for home theater with electric motors etc.
Is there anything out there for less?
