Re: NAB 2017 - any film/cine news?

Yeah, Will, the LaserGraphics is probably more appropriate for damaged film and so is the Kinetta. Cintel at $30k versus LaserGraphics' $100k-plus and Kinetta's $175k-plus, I'm more apt to wait for Roger's next revolutionary marvel at a better price.

Re: NAB 2017 - any film/cine news?

I just got back from Vegas today. I didn't see much new for motion picture film there.

Saw a Kodak booth which was very small and didn't see the Super8 camera there. It was for some other digital products.

Stopped at BlackMagic booth and got a good look at the 35mm Cintel scanner which also ...

Recommend Butterworth's book on film restoration. Good business expense for those serious in this:

The Seguin Cine Museum will take them. It's housed at the Palace Theatre in Seguin, Texas and have a lot of large and small gauge equipment on display for the general public. Email me at david@davideo.tv to discuss details. Website is at http://www.palacetheatreseguin.com. Thanks!

Have you checked with Markertek? Even if they don't have something in the catalog, they can make something for you custom.

Re: Copying Super8 with Nikon D3100

I just looked up the specs on your Nikon D3100 and noticed it does have 24fps speed on it. I looked up the specs on the Eumig 601 and see it only has 18fps but you mentioned you can do 24fps. If that's the case, set the camera and projector both on 24fps.

If time and money is an issue for you, simply bring your film projector to the birthday party and project the films like in the old days. :-)

Re: Copying Super8 with Nikon D3100

The problem is a frame rate disparity between your camera and projector. Solution is to use a different projector that has variable speed rather than your fixed speed projector. Also specially designed "telecine" projectors have a five-blade shutter that would help eliminate flicker. You could also ...

Re: Full Frame scan services?

Talked with Spectra Film & Video in North Hollywood, CA and it has been verified they can do full frame scans with the sprocket holes and even the frame lines. I've used them for years for lab work and have had no problems with them. http://Www.spectrafilmandvideo.com

Re: Horizontal flashes on film

Ok. Do the process of elimination in diagnosing this problem. Shoot a black and white roll in that camera and ship to to an outside lab and see if the problem persists. If it goes away, then there's something wrong with the tank and not the camera.

Re: Horizontal flashes on film

I've run into this issue before when using reflex cameras. Light leak into the eyepiece for the viewfinder is one cause. Need to keep it covered while shooting.

They have a Twitter account (@filmferrania) and their last update was April 8 saying they need to focus on their core films before considering other formats. You can see the posts they did since Feb. 2016 which include photos.
