I suppose if I am going to keep buying cameras, including the batch of regular 8 cameras I now have, I should rig up some sort of small photocell device I can set behind the shutter to watch the light level snd see if it is moving. I could also use that with a counter or scope to measure the frame ...

Yep, same thing. I think this must have happened to all of these guys. I would much rather have a camera stuck in manual mode than in automatic. I suppose the good news is these guys can handle any cartridge you toss in them.

Canon 512XL manual aperture not working
I have found a few really old posts about the Canon 512XL with similar problem. The manual exposure isn't working. Anyone had one of these apart or know what to look for to fix it? I live by manual exposure these days. Sure would be nice to be able to set it.

That's a nice thought Jim and thanks for sharing but, they have a warranty that spells out their responsibility right on the package. They were sent photos of the damage not more than 20 minutes after the package arrived including shots of the packaging and so on. The problem is, the way I see it ...

I was not given a choice of carrier and in fact was told specifically they can't use UPS as their volume won't allow UPS to pick them up (or something like that) No other options were offered so I went with their "standard" service figuring if they are using it it must be OK. We know how that went ...

Just thought I would point this out too. From the back of the Pro8mm package that the /05 film comes in:
"Prepaid Processing Policy: Processing is included if processed before the process by date. Unused prepaid processing will not be refunded under any circumstances. The return of any film to us ...

There you go. That's the way it should be. I can put up with higher prices for correct treatment. It's like a rental house. You pay for what you get. I tried going for what I thought would be the most interesting path with the Kodak 250D film and processing. I got burned on that path by the only ...

I started the same thread on Cinematography.com forums as well. You can see the comments on this thread. Not as interesting as the ones here maybe but I wanted to get as many opinions on this as I could.

In the Dunlop case, I can see why Dunlop was not directly affected by the sales either way. They got their money from the initial sale and were basically no longer a party to any further transactions down-line. If I'm reading that right, that one makes sense but I don't think that applies here. For ...

On this I completely agree with Roger. First, I don't believe I had a choice of carrier, at least one was not presented when we spoke, only the speed of the delivery was an option. Again, I should be able to expect the same quality handling and service no matter whether I chose overnight, ground or ...

I think it's just plain wrong to use a paper envelope for anything other than photographs. I've even had those slightly mangled in the past. Why would anyone not take the extra time and a few cents to package materials correctly, in a slightly more crush proof container? I admit this is the first ...

Thanks for the good wishes Roger. Sent my negatives off to Justin Lovell. Hopefully it's not to warped for his unit that I think he got from you. Looking forward to seeing the results.
