Re: Bolex H16 SBM : How Loud?

Hi Adam,

the SBM manual states a full wind drives 18 feet of film, ie 28 seconds at 24fps.

If you can wait a few days and would like to hear a sound recording of an sbm and think it might be useful, Ill make you one, with a spoken voice as reference level.

Here's a little snippet of R10 footage, hand held, zoomed and I drink a fair bit of coffee so excuse the shakes. Plus-X / Andec / my telecine

Re: Recording sound

.
Google DIgidesign Mbox and then find one on ebay USA. Mac compatible and amazingly cheap these days, its a hardware unit designed for ProTools LE software, which should be included with the unit, ie you're getting a pretty good audio software package too. Power and signal is carried by USB to ur ...

Hi Rufus,

we're very privileged to have Richard PT posting here and sharing his considerable knowledge on this subject. A member search of his posts will throw up all kinds of useful processing tips.

Re: Canon 814/1014XLS vs Beaulieu and Leicina Special comparison

Ah the joy of self-denial! :D

As you well know Mike, 'sharpness' is an ancient myth in all film based mediums, and an element in the alter-ego of all super8 shooters...a dirty little secret, an impulse that drives many on their quest for the holy grail of cameras...and even cameras with expensive ...

Re: Canon 814/1014XLS vs Beaulieu and Leicina Special comparison

I count myself as one of those Leicina Special owners 'who think the R10 is a better camera' to quote another forum member.

In reality theres pros and cons with both. If you've not seen any plus-x or 100D shot with an R10, you're in for a VERY pleasant surprise. I think it is genuinely supersharp ...

Don't forget that unlike most other people who using smaller sensors for telecine, the enormous RED sensor means that you will probably be looking for glass optimised / corrected for enlargement and not standard reproductive sizes, and if my dodgy maths is somewhere near, that means something ...

Hi Matt,

what I meant was that to my rather limited knowledge, there is already talk of an official RED Nikon F mount becoming available. This in itself opens a great range of glass...(if you wanted to get really obsessed you could chose something from this list http://www.naturfotograf.com/lens ...

Great looking opportunity with kit of that quality, but what made you discount the idea of engineering an alternative lens mount (or waiting for RED to do the same) and then choosing from the multitude of fantastic glass already produced specifically for this type of (ie reproduction) work?

Good ...

Hi again static,

yeah just get out there and have some fun. You're going to get some fantastic results, but the point is that they are probably not going to be in line with either what you expect or your expectations! The point is to see if you like what you can produce.

By the way, Bolex ...

Hi Static,

sounds like a neat project. Good luck with it. Buy yourself a single cart of a filmstock that the Nautica can handle and is also capable of being home processed easily (eg Tri-x), get yourself o-rings and grease and your wetsuit on and go AND TEST! Even if that is only paddling around ...

Well everyones view of normality is a little different...and it all really depends on your age (?!), location in the world, what speeds your projector has, what you want to do with your film after development, 'artistic preferences' and for a whole lot of people, how big your budget is!!

Two and a ...
