The Goodwill at Yonge and Bloor has often had a nice cache, but they always keep 'em for auctions.

As far as Camera... it just isn't feasible for an independent filmmaker. Rental price starts at $700/night for a 95 seat venue. That doesn't make any sense -- it's in the same ballpark ...

That's an interesting thought. Last cartridge I had that jammed was also stored in the fridge. I wonder if anyone else can correlate those two things?

Do you have any process/ritual when loading a new cartridge?

At York U, they taught us to always firmly tap the edge of the cartidge against your hand (like a cigarette box) to loosen stuck emulsion and then wind by hand to tighten any slack. We were warned that failure to do so would result in ...

I was not loading the film in "L" because the projection lamp was lit at that position, so I assumed the "L" meant "light".

This board always amazes me with its helpfulness!

Further googling hasn't turned up any info -- except that I think I spelled the name wrong. I think it's a Silma S111.

I picked up a Silwa S111 -- a typical good Super 8 deal, it was $1 at a church bazaar.

After a quick clean and lube, it works well. The drive works both directions, the belts are in good shape. Even the bulb is in good shape.

Hi Nicholas, so glad you could make it out! They did eventually project my film, but the Drake also interupted the evening by switching to their usual "art/documentary background imagery" screenings. The festival organizers finally got the Drake to put the festival films back up.
