Ok, you got me, now what Camera?

Super 8 cameras seem pretty thin on the ground here (Perth Australia), at least anything other than your plastic 18fps cheapo models.. though the K40 film is easy to find, so someone must be shooting.

The main shop here that sells old camera gear... only has one 2nd hand item in there shop.. and ...

How to save Kodachrome : The solution!

Start emailing paul simon. You guys need media coverage, he'd get media coverage and all the baby boomers would get nostalgic about their young days. They might even get nostalgic and buy some Kodachrome!

On the basis of all that good media coverage, it could work out cheaper for them to keep K40 ...

I now understand why you guys are so upset at the loss of K40. Do you think theres any chance of them changing there minds? My local still minilab has about 20 x K40 cartridges on the shelf.

If the loss of Kodachrome going to seriously damage the format?

PS. Taqi, a Special? Your not telling me Leitz made Super 8 cameras are you??

Oh yes. Several. But the Special is the one to go for apparently. Interchangeable lenses... bolt your noctilux onto that

You really need to talk to Santo...

OMG Taqi, you are a BAD BAD man :) Theyre not ...

Had a look at the workprinter... dont like the idea of just filming a projected image. Sure it might be slow, but surely someone else out there is perfectionist enough to scan their Super8 in a coolscan?

Super8man,

Thanks for a link to your site. I did lurk here for a bit reading, but got confused. I did try google to answer some questions but it turned up so much irrelevant rubbish.

Sometimes you need a information injection to get you going yeh? I wasn't being intentionally lazy.

Daniel.

Heres another question. If you were shooting black & white, couldn't you just develop the film your self?

Also, couldn't you just modify a Nikon 35mm film scanner to scan Super 8? This would avoid the process and telecine costs, which seem to be the main source of expense having looked at the http ...

Thanks for all the helpfull replies, it was a shame 8 of them were taken up with troll speculation. I certainly think Ill have to give this a go.. given that I sold most of my digital SLR gear and moved to Leica, I think it will suit my sensibilities ;)

Daniel.

PS. What about this...

Hello:
People would said, but what about the last STAR WARS film is was shoot on HDV? Yes it was shot on HDV but with a $100,000 camera

Heh, I just saw it last night, and it looked terrible to me! Overdone CGI, very fake, flat looking backgrounds. Didn't occur to me it was shot on HD!

Is it ...

Re: Newbie : Why Super 8?

Wouldnt a 3-CCD Mini-DV cam outperform these?

Would a 10 mega pixel still digital camera outperform a film camera with Kodachrome?

But Super-8 isnt 35mm film resolution?

Anyways, thanks for the answers... I thought that Pro8 was another 8mm format, I didn't realise it was a company!

As for ...

Newbie : Why Super 8?

Im a stills photographer and as we also use Kodachrome found out about the whole K40 issue you guys are facing. I've read a few posts which I dont quite understand not being a cine guy.

1. What is Pro-8 and why is this the evil scurge it would seem to be from posts I've read by Super 8 enthusiasts ...
