i'm not a fan of car mounts. something about rigging an expensive camera onto a moving vehicle never felt quite right. especially the cheap ones that are basically one huge suction cup. a low-budget solution would be to get your friend's truck and tow the car around with a camera filming from the ...

...just write a description of every shot, and i do draw floor plans. both work well both for clearifying to myself what i'm doing and for letting the crew know what we're doing and what to do next...
i find floor plans/camera setups are pretty useful, if you're like me and can't draw too well ...

i'm glad you made the call that you did. hopefully you take the next take with 50,000 volts worth of lights on the band...

did the band have a problem, or was it the venue? anyway, blast 'em with light the next time around. g'luck.

Or you could make a short movie every 3 days with mini-dv (or every day if you really wanted) and then once you get good with that, then progress to 16.
well, this thread is not about directing but cinematography, and not about learning but creating. if you're a beginner and/or don't care that ...

given any band that 'jams,' make sure you get footage of the bandmates interacting with each other... too many music videos focus on singling out musicians shredding the guitar, or how cute the lead singer is. this depends on how much room you have but, try to get shots where there's more than one ...

I see what you are saying, but I have to disagree with the way it is put.

IMHO film is a LOT easier to light than video, any video, for a number of reasons. In other words it is easier (and cheaper) in terms of lighting to get a great image on film.

So badly lit video looks absolutely terrible ...

With any medium you choose, you're still going to have to learn how to light and record sound. Badly lit video will still look as bad as badly lit film. The mic's on video cameras? They're all horrible, you'll end up using a boom mic or another recording system. What matters though when you're first ...

recommended voltage converters?

hi all. first post.
i've been trying to search the forums for any topics about people in the states using voltage converters for their nizo nc adapters... but haven't had much luck.

is there anything i should watch out for? or any recommendations from radio shack/etc. that you've used?

many thanks.
