I think that is a good point, monobath. Oh, and Mike is the name. I really don't like that aweful screename I gave myself.

Thank you all for your comments. I realize filmshooting is an expensive hobby/profession, and I think I budget my income to suit a comfortable and steady relationship with it.

the only good reason to buy a camera is if you need it all the time, or have enough jobs to pay it off quickly.
that said, there's plenty of irrational reasons why i still want one ;)

I suppose I should chime in a bit here. I asked this question as I am currently looking into ...

1) What are you using the camera for??

2) Do you need the camera to do anything special??

3) How long do you plan on being married to this camera??

4) Why do you feel that you should buy a camera??

Answer those question and then we can start talking.

As for the Arri S/B they are loud. The ...

Should I buy a Bolex or save up for an Arri?

Ok, what is your opinion? I could get a fully-featured Bolex with my current available funds but the prospect of an Arri 16S/B looks soooo tempting. I mean, come on! It's an Arriflex! I'm sure someone has/has used this model Arri. What's it like? Worth saving up for?

I suppose I should comment that I haven't been able to shoot mine yet, with work and a combination of bad weather on days off. Michigan isn't the most predictable state in terms of clouds... especially on the lake!

It's the 801 Animation Trickset. I have the same set; it (more or less!) includes such things as a remote trigger, lens shade, and animation paper. I wish I spoke german just so I could interpriet the hardcover book it should come with also. I forked out $300US for mine, which seems par. And, if I ...

I never got a auto response, did those of you who sent an email get that auto response?

I never got an email response back, they just sent the cart. It came from their Chicago office with the business card of a Mr. Ben Stone (regional accounting manager) attatched to the question sheets. Even ...

Just being someone who has jumped into the whole film thing in the last year or so....Ive missed out on the kodachrome thing. Now that I've seen some examples on this forum ,I'm astonished at the grain and contrast with it in super 8.I have shot mostly 16mm and the grain is sometimes more evident in ...

Yes, Kodak is giving out 64t if you ask!

About 2 or 3 weeks ago, I went on a fling and shot Kodak an email asking if I could get a cart of 64t to test out. Lo and behold, a fresh cart of 64t was waiting in the mail for me today! :D :D :D They send a lot of paperwork with all sorts of evaluation questions with it, but I suppose that is the ...

Allright. Thanks; I just wanted to clear up this little discrepancy before actually loading my K3 for the first time. I suppose I wonder due to the fact I usually shoot with the need to change rolls quickly, i.e. unscripted action.

Can you really load a daylight roll in daylight???

Ok, this is a head scratcher. It's a daylight roll (16mm) but the sticker on the plastic canister says "OPEN ONLY IN TOTAL DARKNESS." I know I'm not to load a cam in direct sun, but is total darkness really required?

Yes, I searched. To no avail.

A note to anyone who purchases one directly from Russia: ask the seller to put at least one return address in ENGLISH or customs will take a dump on it and send it back to them. Due to that little discrepancy, I'm still waiting on mine I ordered in April. The return post to the seller is very slow ...
