Part of the problem is your transfer. Negative looks pretty bad unless you get a good transfer made of it.
Your film also looks pretty low-contrast. Tri-X loses about a stop of sensitivity when it's cross-processed, so if you shoot it at the rated ISO of 200, you have to approximately double your ...

Re: D-76
What about cross-processing 7265 as negative?
I've cross-processed 7266 a couple times and really liked the increased tonal range. I don't have a motion picture processing tank so I just wadded the film up and stuck it in a 35mm daylight tank. I shot it at its rated ISO of 200, and gave it double ...

"documentary" footage
I'm listening to the DVD commentary right now--they say they shot the fake documentary footage (like in the screening at the beginning of the movie) on Ektachrome. Although they don't say outright what format they used, but it sounded to me like they used 35mm.

Cost
Any word as to what this new stock will end up costing (in terms of stock and processing)?
I'm in preproduction on a film now and I wanted to use some S8 in it. I was hoping to wait until the market stabilized, but is that ever going to happen?

DVD quality
[And for all those talking about the archival benefits of K40, it cannot compete with a DVD disc that can be copied to new formats as the come. One can have the exact same quality 300 years from now on a "DVD" (or whatever they are called then), but your precious K40 will not have the same quality ...

Quarz cameras
I wouldn't mind having one of those, but in my mind it doesn't compare to the solid metal construction of my beautiful little 1x8S-2.
I think this was the only other Super-8 they made, although they may have made a DS8.

Update - Camera repaired!
OK, I've got the camera running again by basically removing every screw I could get at (not many-- It's a testament to the camera's durability that you can't break it even when you're trying very hard and armed with a screwdriver) and taking everything apart and putting it back together. The camera ...

Quarz 1x8s-2 - can it be repaired?
I just got a Krasnogorsk Quarz 1x8s-2 (Kinoflex) wind-up super8 camera which I bought on Ebay. I actually got it for the lens and filters and the seller said the camera was working, but it seems like it could be repaired, which would be a plus.

If you want a film look, shoot with fim
If you want it to look like film, shoot it in film. Generally speaking, it is beyond the reach of all but the high-budget feature to make video look the way film ACTUALLY looks. Sure, there are effects like "film grain," but they don't come CLOSE to making the footage look like real film.

Quarz 1x8s-2
I just got one not a long time ago and shot 2 rolls of k40 with it, I'm still waiting to get the film back. I ended up shooting a fair deal with automatic metering. Hopefully it actually works, as there was often a startling difference between the built-in meter and my handheld (non-cine) light ...
